Hugo came to Canine College displaying reactive behaviors toward both people and dogs, especially in the home environment and during walks. His owner was increasingly concerned about Hugo’s escalating reactions to family members and guests entering the home, making everyday activities stressful and difficult to manage.

After initially arriving for boarding services, our team identified that Hugo’s behavior stemmed largely from fear, uncertainty, and a lack of clear communication and structure. Following a consultation, Hugo was enrolled in our 5-week training program focused on building confidence, trust, and reliable communication between dog and handler. 

Through a structured daily routine, consistent guidance, and gradual exposure to new experiences, Hugo learned to better manage his impulses and respond calmly to direction. As his confidence grew, so did his ability to work cooperatively with both trainer and owner. 

Today, Hugo has developed into a relaxed, confident companion dog who can comfortably enjoy walks, car rides, and guests visiting the home. Most importantly, Hugo and his owner now work together as a team with trust, clarity, and confidence. 

1-YEAR-OLD COBBERDOG

Gryff came to Canine College with a very special purpose. His family had purchased him to assist their grandson during rehabilitation following an injury. While Cobberdogs are often known for their natural therapy-dog temperament, Gryff had not yet been formally trained for this type of work.

Through our 5-week program, Gryff developed foundational obedience, confidence, and a clear sense of structure. In addition to standard training, he was introduced to assistance-based work, including remaining calm and neutral while the grandson applied physical contact during rehab exercises. 

Gryff responded exceptionally well to the training and quickly adapted to both obedience and support work. The family participated in the process at Canine College to ensure they could confidently continue the work at home. 

We’re happy to report that Gryff has become a steady and reliable presence in the home, and the grandson has since made a full recovery. 

RETRIEVER

Jake arrived at Canine College as a happy, untrained puppy with no ingrained behavioral issues, just a lot of youthful energy. His owner, a semi-retired businessman, wanted to ensure Jake received proper structure and training early before he grew too large to manage without clear control.

The goal of Jake’s 4-week program was not correction, but development. We wanted to work on channeling his natural eagerness to please into focused obedience, impulse control, and structured work. By giving Jake clear tasks and expectations, he quickly gained confidence and learned to thrive through positive engagement and praise. 

Jake took to training exceptionally well and developed into a composed, attentive young dog. At the end of the program, his owner was trained on handling techniques to maintain consistency at home and in public. 

Today, Jake walks calmly through town, engages politely with people, and has since gone on to become an accredited therapy dog who regularly visits patients in local hospitals alongside his owner. 

GREAT DANES
1 Year & 7 Months at Time of Training

Ace and Banksy’s owners came to Canine College through our boarding program and quickly expressed interest in formal training for both dogs. With their expected large size and growing strength, the goal was to establish strong manners early, both in the home and on-leash in the neighborhood.

Both Great Danes were enrolled in our 3-week training program, with a focus on structure, impulse control, and engagement through praise-based motivation. At their age, they were still highly receptive to learning, making it easier to shape clear, reliable behaviors. 

Ace and Banksy responded well to consistent handling and mental engagement. As their focus improved, so did their ability to remain calm and responsive in everyday environments. 

Today, they are a social, well-mannered duo and an important part of their family’s daily life at home and in the community.
